Love, love, love the challenge over at CAS-ual Fridays this week. Use a pun, or a sentiment in a funny way to create a joke. These are the kind of cards I love to make! Especially when it comes time to irritate my teenage daughter who always, and I mean always, rolls her eyes when I do. lol
My friend and I have a LONG history with Weight Watchers. We do well when we both are motivated, go to meetings together and push each other. We also can't seem to maintain the discipline it takes for long periods of time. One or the other of us wants to give up and when that happens we both fall off the wagon, so to speak. We are both in off the wagon mode right now but I know we will eventually get going again. I made this card for her. I'm not sure if she's a fan of Grey's Anatomy, but I know she will appreciate the pun.
Here's another pun card I made just because they're fun to make. lol
Hop on over to CAS-ual Fridays and join in the fun. I know I can't wait to see all the punny cards this week!

No Pun Here
Some of my family members prefer a more traditional and serious style of card than I typically make. No cutesy or punny cards for them. This is my attempt at something a bit more elegant than my normal cards. I used some red satin ribbon to make the flower, a Sizzix die for the leaves and a Cuttlebug embossing folder for the panel.
I'm entering this card in a couple of challenges-
Less Is More - Punches or Die Cuts
CAS-ual Fridays - Tie One On-use ribbon

Tie One On
I had an idea to make a bow tie out of ribbon for the CAS-ual Fridays Tie One On challenge. I've made them before-no big deal. I wanted the stripes of the ribbon to go in specific directions so I had to make 3 pieces and boy oh boy did it give me fits! I should have just broken down and gotten the sewing machine out instead of trying to use a needle and thread. The ribbon kept unraveling so I used some scor tape-big mistake. Talk about gumming up a needle and getting sore thumbs...not my finest hour. The bow is not as good as I had hoped, but dang it, those stripes are where I want them. lol Next time I want to make a bow tie I'm using solids.
This is a fun challenge! Who doesn't like using ribbon? Hop on over to CAS-ual Fridays and check out all the fun creations.

Paper Piecing
Talk about waiting until the last minute. lol I can't believe how little time (none) I've had for crafting this week. My challenge participation was going to be non existent this week until I had to hurry and make a birthday card. The birthday girl is on my daughter's Winter Guard team and their costumes are different shades of gray so that's what I used on this card. Fortunately, I was able to combine this necessity with the CAS-ual Fridays paper piecing challenge. Whew, I was having challenge withdrawal!

Somebody Stop Me
Betcha think my next card was inspired by "The Mask" with a post title like that. But nooo...I went in a different direction. I just need to quit making cards and do some productive work like laundry, bill paying and the dreaded grocery shopping. Sigh...I guess I'm done for a couple of days-duty calls.
One last card for the CAS-ual Fridays On The Red Carpet challenge. I still have a lot of ideas for cards inspired by movies and I'm keeping a list on my work space for future reference. I was fascinated by the documentary "Spellbound". It was a film that showed 8 kids and how they prepared for competing in the National Spelling Bee. I tried to get my kids to watch this film with me but they wanted no part of it. lol You really need to hop on over to CAS-ual Fridays-there are some amazing takes on this challenge!
I used Bumblebrella, a Stitchy Bear digi stamp-isn't it sooo cute?

The eagle has landed.
For a few moments anyway. This guy was hunting ducks on the lake across our road. It's pretty amazing to watch. The ducks huddle together for protection and duck under the water when he swoops down. The eagle makes a few passes then perches on a pole and waits a while before trying again. We are so lucky to be able to see all this from our house!

Movie Mania, Part 2
OK, I couldn't stop myself. Here are a couple more for the CAS-ual Fridays movie challenge. I guess you can tell I'm loving this challenge.
I love the movie Julie & Julia - mainly for Meryl Streep's performance. When the Julie scenes were on I just kept wishing for the Julia scenes to hurry back. My husband and I both used to watch the real Julia Child when we were kids-this movie was very entertaining and made me wish I could have known her!
This is a holder for a restaurant gift card. I don't think I could have found a better stamp for this purpose. I wish someone would fill it up for me! lol
Here's one more-
I don't know why, but this was different-I don't particularly care for the movie that inspired this card but "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" did seem perfect for this stamp. Maybe it's because as good an actor as he is, I just don't care for Jack Nicholson. Blasphemy, I know.

Movie Mania
When I read the challenge at CAS-ual Fridays was to use a movie as inspiration, I had NO idea how many ideas that would give me! I decided to jot down a few of my fave movies and then see what I could come up with, It's embarrassing to admit that I had stamps to accommodate each and every movie I came up with. lol
My all time favorite movie is Joy Luck Club. I think every mother should watch this movie with her daughter. It's an emotional roller coaster but well worth the ride. I chose to go with an Asian theme for my card. Of course, I will be sending this to my own mom.
Who isn't familiar with the phrase "E.T. phone home"? This popular line from E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial was the inspiration for this card.
As the 1 year anniversary challenge over at Less Is More is a color challenge, I've used the required yummy aqua for these cards and will enter them over there too. Congrats and thanks to Mandi and Chrissie!

I used this darling "Joy Ride" image from our sponsor Stamp and Create for my card this week. I love her flying braids and joyful expression! I wanted to tie bows for her braids but I couldn't make them small enough with my clumsy bow tying skills. lol My mojo deserted me the day I was trying to create this card so I borrowed some from the talented Alison Spelman by lifting this lovely card. Thanks Alison!
